Safety When Preparing To Leave

Think about who might let you stay with them or lend you some money.
Always try to take your children with you or make arrangements to leave them with someone safe.
Leave money, an extra set of keys, copies of important documents, and some clothes with someone you trust.
If possible, open a savings or checking account in your own name to establish or increase your independence.
Keep the Safe Shelter phone number close at hand. (701-251-2300)
Review your safety plans with a domestic violence advocate who can help you plan the safest way to leave.
Please be very careful when you leave. It can sometimes be the most dangerous time.

You have the right to be safe in your relationship:
physically, emotionally, and sexually.
